The first speaker, Jaume Colomer, explored the current threats to availability coming from directions that are not within the usual narrow perspective. The launch of the European Commission’s ‘Green Deal’ in December 2019 led to a package of policy initiatives focused on environmental and chemical sustainability. A primary example is the EU Chemical Strategy for Sustainability (October 2020), which included 85 actions and 54 legislative proposals, covering many aspects such as the REACH programme, the essential use concept and packaging waste.
